Jhelum: A 20-year-old woman, Kiran alias Pathani, was allegedly shot dead in broad daylight in the Dena area of Jhelum. The suspect reportedly fled the scene after the incident.
Police Action
Police took the victim’s body into custody and launched an investigation. Efforts are underway to arrest the suspect.
Background
According to initial reports, Kiran had been engaged to Malik Khurram some time ago. However, Kiran and her mother later reportedly refused to proceed with the marriage.
Police said the suspect allegedly tried to persuade both of them, but after failing to do so, he allegedly opened fire on Kiran and killed her.
Suspect’s Statement
Hours after the incident, a statement allegedly attributed to Malik Khurram circulated on social media. In the statement, he claimed that Kiran and her mother had been taking money from him for years and that he had been fulfilling their financial needs.
He further alleged that they had promised to marry Kiran to him, but later refused. He also made allegations about Kiran’s personal life and claimed that he killed her because he could not tolerate the situation.
Threat of Suicide
In the alleged statement, Khurram also threatened to take his own life and claimed responsibility for Kiran’s killing.
He reportedly said that he was solely responsible for the murder and urged that no innocent person be implicated in the case.
Police investigation is ongoing, and the allegations contained in the suspect’s statement have not independently been established.
