Muscat: Cargo from a container ship that sank in the Strait of Hormuz has reportedly begun washing up along the coast of Oman. According to reports, two vessels sank in separate incidents after being targeted.
Details of the Ship
One of the vessels was carrying more than 2,500 containers, reportedly including iPhones and other electronic devices.
According to Singapore’s Maritime and Port Authority, all 21 crew members aboard the vessel GFS Pride were safely evacuated. No injuries were reported.
Conflicting Claims Over the Cause of the Sinking
Different accounts have emerged regarding the circumstances surrounding the vessel’s sinking:
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed that the ship struck a naval mine after taking an unauthorized route.
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) rejected Iran’s account, stating that the vessel was struck by an IRGC projectile.
Singapore’s Maritime and Port Authority said the ship had been hit by an unidentified projectile.
The precise circumstances of the incident remain disputed.
Second Vessel Also Reported Sunk
According to Reuters, another vessel, Cape Dao, also sank near the Strait of Hormuz after being attacked on September 23. One crew member reportedly died in that incident.
Cargo Spotted Floating at Sea
Following the sinking, boxes believed to contain iPhones and expensive perfumes were reportedly seen floating on the sea surface. Videos circulating on social media appear to show people in small boats retrieving items from the water.
Important Note
The information above is based on reports from international news agencies and official statements. The exact circumstances surrounding the sinkings remain subject to further investigation and verification.
