LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Babar Nawaz Khan has strongly criticized Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, saying that confrontation with the federal government in the name of provincial autonomy and actions that could affect law and order are unacceptable.
Speaking on the current affairs program “Sawal with Asma Iqbal” on private TV channel GTV News, Babar Nawaz Khan criticized the KP chief minister’s political conduct and social media campaign.
Criticism Over Confrontation with the Federal Government
Babar Nawaz Khan said that while provincial autonomy was important, using it as a pretext for confrontation with the federal government or creating problems for law and order could not be justified.
He said the country was already facing serious political, economic and security challenges, and that the head of a province should therefore demonstrate responsible leadership.
Strong Criticism of Chief Minister’s Conduct
The PML-N leader also criticized Chief Minister Sohail Afridi’s social media activities, describing the approach as immature and inappropriate for someone holding a constitutional office.
He said such activities could, in his view, create a negative impression of Pakistan.
Babar Nawaz Khan stated, “This is childish behavior, and in the pursuit of making TikTok videos, they could become a cause of embarrassment for Pakistan. The position he holds requires dignity, and he has violated the dignity of that office.”
Reference to Terrorism and Economic Challenges
Babar Nawaz Khan further said that Pakistan was currently dealing with terrorism, economic difficulties and other major challenges.
He argued that under such circumstances, the chief minister should focus on governance, public welfare, maintaining law and order and addressing the problems faced by the people rather than engaging in political confrontation and social media campaigns.
He emphasized that the provincial government should focus on fulfilling its constitutional and administrative responsibilities and working for the welfare and development of the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Political Background
The remarks come amid continuing political differences and exchanges between the federal government and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government.
Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has adopted a strong political position against the federal government, while his social media campaign and political statements have also become subjects of debate.
The KP chief minister had recently announced a long march towards Islamabad, further highlighting the political tensions between the provincial and federal governments.
Note: The criticism and allegations mentioned in this report are attributed to Babar Nawaz Khan and represent his political views. The response of Chief Minister Sohail Afridi or the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government was not included in the provided information.
