LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has said that crimes against women will not be tolerated and that all available resources will be utilized to empower female students. She stated that the provincial government is working to make Punjab a safer and more supportive environment for women.
Address at Kinnaird College Convocation
According to Geo News, Maryam Nawaz made these remarks while addressing the convocation ceremony at Kinnaird College for Women University in Lahore.
She highlighted the distinction of being Punjab's first woman chief minister and said she wanted other women to become empowered and advance in every field of life.
She observed that women often face additional challenges in pursuing success, but determination, hard work and access to opportunities can enable them to demonstrate their abilities.
Women's Safety Declared a Top Priority
Maryam Nawaz said considerable efforts had been made over the past three years to improve the safety of women and girls in Punjab.
Taking a firm stance against crimes targeting women, she said those responsible should not be spared. She also emphasized the importance of building confidence among women and creating an environment in which they can pursue their ambitions without fear.
The chief minister claimed that government initiatives had helped make Punjab a safer province for women.
E-Bikes and Employment Opportunities for Female Students
The chief minister reiterated her commitment to making female students and women more independent by providing them with the facilities needed to participate fully in education and professional life.
She referred to the provision of electric bikes to women on easy instalments and initiatives aimed at expanding employment opportunities, helping women access education, workplaces and other activities more conveniently.
Education, Cleanliness and Smog Control
Maryam Nawaz said the provincial government aimed to reach every household and ensure that every child had access to educational opportunities.
She also highlighted government efforts to improve cleanliness and address smog across Punjab.
She expressed her desire to see clean streets and neighbourhoods throughout the province and to improve public services for residents.
Attaullah Tarar Makes Allegations Against Former KP Government
Separately, Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar accused the former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government of allegedly facilitating terrorists and said evidence would be presented in support of the allegations.
He also stated that restoring the former provincial government was not part of negotiations with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
The allegations and political statements remain matters of political contention, and responses from the parties concerned are relevant to a complete account.
Editorial note: Claims concerning women's safety, smog reduction and other government initiatives are attributed to the chief minister's remarks. Independent assessment would require supporting statistics and official records.
