ABBOTTABAD: An employee of Ayub Teaching Institution, identified as supervisor Sardar Arif, was allegedly killed in police firing following a dispute in the limits of Mirpur Police Station.
According to the victim’s family, Sardar Arif was allegedly shot multiple times inside his residence on Phal Gulab Road in front of his wife and children.
Following the incident, the victim’s body was shifted for post-mortem examination. Later, family members and relatives staged a protest and blocked the Karakoram Highway from both sides, demanding the suspension of the SHO and other police personnel allegedly involved in the incident, as well as registration of an FIR.
SP Headquarters Ishtiaq Khan also reached the hospital and held talks with the victim’s family. Police authorities assured the family that the incident would be investigated and justice would be provided.
The family alleged that police personnel, while allegedly protecting a foreign national, subjected Sardar Arif to violence inside his home before opening fire on him. These allegations have yet to be independently verified, while the complete police version of the incident is awaited.
Meanwhile, employees of Ayub Teaching Institution announced a boycott of hospital services, except emergency services, until an FIR is registered against the SHO and other personnel allegedly involved in the incident.
The protest continued after Maghrib prayers, resulting in the closure of the Karakoram Highway and causing long queues of vehicles on both sides.
Sardar Arif was the son of Sardar Abdul Rasheed, Chairman of Human Rights and Interfaith Harmony for Abbottabad district.
