PESHAWAR, October 10, 2026: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has clarified his position regarding former chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur, saying there appears to have been a misunderstanding and that he did not make any remarks about Gandapur. Afridi also announced plans to construct a motorway connecting Peshawar with Dera Ismail Khan and said approximately Rs200 billion was being spent on development projects across the province.
Speaking to the media in Peshawar, Afridi said the provincial government was continuing development initiatives in line with the vision of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan.
He said the government was focusing on accelerating development activities and improving public facilities across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Peshawar–Dera Ismail Khan Motorway Announced
The chief minister said a motorway would be constructed from Peshawar to Dera Ismail Khan, adding that the current year would be significant for development activities in the province.
Afridi described development projects as essential for addressing the province’s needs and improving public services. He said the provincial government was taking steps to advance development initiatives in different sectors.
According to the chief minister, approximately Rs200 billion was being spent on development projects. However, the allocation, project details and implementation timeline would require confirmation through official documents.
Afridi Objects to Governor’s Meeting
Afridi also objected to Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi’s move to convene a meeting, describing the action as unconstitutional.
The chief minister maintained that political issues should be resolved through dialogue. He said political efforts had continued for nine months, but, according to him, the desired progress had not been achieved.
Calls for Dialogue to Resolve Political Differences
The chief minister urged political forces to resolve their differences through negotiations and mutual consultation.
He stressed that dialogue was necessary to reduce political tensions and find lasting solutions to outstanding issues.
Editorial clarification: The claim that the governor’s action was unconstitutional represents Chief Minister Sohail Afridi’s position. Its legal status depends on the relevant constitutional provisions and circumstances. The development spending figure and details of the proposed motorway should also be verified through official records.
