ABBOTTABAD: Abbottabad police reportedly raided the residences of Member of the National Assembly Ali Asghar Khan and Member of the Provincial Assembly Mushtaq Ghani late at night following the reported imposition of Governor’s Rule and an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Details of the Raids
According to reports, Ali Asghar Khan was not present at his residence when police conducted the raid. Meanwhile, Mushtaq Ghani was reportedly placed under house arrest.
The circumstances surrounding the raids and the legal basis for the reported house arrest have not yet been independently verified.
Mushtaq Ghani’s Reaction
Reacting to the developments, Mushtaq Ghani stated that the deployment of the military in the province had effectively resulted in the imposition of martial law.
His remarks came amid reports of extraordinary constitutional and administrative measures in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Emergency and Governor’s Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
The developments reportedly followed President Asif Ali Zardari’s signing of a summary concerning the imposition of an emergency and Governor’s Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under Articles 232 and 234 of the Constitution of Pakistan.
According to the reported announcement, the provincial government could not continue to function in accordance with the Constitution under the prevailing circumstances. The announcement further stated that the Chief Minister, provincial ministers, advisers, and special assistants would immediately relinquish their respective offices.
The reported measures have raised questions about the province’s constitutional arrangements, the authority of elected representatives, and the legal implications of the administrative changes.
Important Note
The information presented in this report is based on preliminary reports and sources. The circumstances surrounding the police raids, Mushtaq Ghani’s reported house arrest, and the legal status of the announced measures require confirmation through official statements and relevant legal proceedings.
