Lahore – Senior Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and husband of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Capt (R) Muhammad Safdar, spoke candidly in a digital program about his 35-year marriage, family matters, dietary restrictions, and his political statements.
Married Life and Taking the Initiative for Reconciliation
During the interview, Capt (R) Safdar was asked who usually takes the initiative to reconcile after an argument or disagreement at home. He indicated that the initiative generally comes from the “other side,” referring to Maryam Nawaz.
He emphasized that their marriage is based not on political status but on mutual respect and dignity.
He said they have been married for 35 years and have three children and several grandchildren.
Why He Does Not Attend Cabinet Meetings
Explaining why he does not attend Punjab Cabinet meetings, Capt (R) Safdar said:
«“That is why I don’t sit in the Cabinet. It doesn’t make sense because when the Chief Minister enters the room, everyone has to stand up. So why should I sit there?”»
Family Differences
He further said that minor disagreements at home are a normal part of family life and are not related to their political differences.
Health and Dietary Restrictions
Speaking about his health and diet, he said that his family members hide sweets from him because of his diabetes.
Smiling, he remarked:
If there are sweets at home, the family hides them and says Safdar will eat them and his HbA1c will get worse. I tell them, at least let me eat.
Defense of His Political Statements
When asked whether his public and political statements cause disagreements at home, Capt (R) Safdar defended his position, saying:
“I have my own school of thought. What wrong statement have I made? I only speak against corrupt people. They also arrest such people, and I am following the same path.
