ISLAMABAD: The Directorate of Building Control (City) of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has issued a warning notice directing the removal of a guards’ room and other alleged unauthorised constructions at the Islamabad residence of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman within 15 days.
The notice, dated October 30 and issued on Friday, was affixed outside the JUI-F chief’s residence in the G-6 sector of the federal capital. Addressed to the legal owner of the property, it identifies three alleged violations of the Islamabad Capital Territory Building Control Regulations 2020, as amended in 2023.
According to the notice, the violations include unauthorised construction within the building’s setback areas, a guard post allegedly built on CDA land, and a generator installed on land belonging to the authority.
The CDA notice further states that, according to official records, the property owner had submitted an affidavit on March 18, 2019, at the time of the issuance of a No Objection Certificate (NOC). In the affidavit, the owner had reportedly undertaken to remove the setback violations within three months and comply with all applicable regulations.
However, the authority stated that the required compliance had not been made. It has therefore directed the removal of all identified violations within 15 days, beginning Friday, October 30.
The CDA warned that failure to meet the legal requirements and remove the alleged violations within the stipulated period could result in action under the relevant provisions of the CDA Ordinance and the Islamabad Capital Territory Building Control Regulations 2020, as amended in 2023. Possible measures include sealing or demolishing the structures in violation of the regulations, as well as initiating proceedings for cancellation of the property’s allotment.
Meanwhile, following the issuance of the notice, Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s son, Maulana Asjad Mahmood, alleged that the action was retaliatory and linked to his family’s highlighting of alleged encroachments by a senior military official.
In a statement, Mahmood claimed that instead of responding to the allegations of encroachment, the authorities had resorted to what he described as underhanded tactics.
He also expressed concern over what he termed the transformation of political differences into personal revenge. He said such actions were a matter of serious concern and urged the public and JUI-F workers to remain informed and vigilant as the situation develops.
