Uzma Bukhari Says Hina Pervaiz Butt’s Statements Cause Embarrassment for the Government.

LAHORE: Punjab Information Minister Uzma Bukhari has said that some statements made by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MPA Hina Pervaiz Butt create problems for her and cause embarrassment for the government.
Speaking on Geo News’ programme Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath, Uzma Bukhari said she did not want to comment extensively on how seriously Hina Pervaiz Butt handled her social media posts. However, she remarked that the MPA sometimes made statements out of a lack of understanding, which later created difficulties for her and embarrassment for the government.
Hina Pervaiz Butt Responds to Uzma Bukhari
Reacting to the remarks, Hina Pervaiz Butt said that if Uzma Bukhari felt embarrassed by her statement, that was her own choice. She said she respectfully disagreed with her colleague’s position.
Crimes Against Women and Children in Punjab
During the programme, Uzma Bukhari also discussed crimes against women and children in Punjab and the police response to such cases.
She said the Crime Control Department (CCD) had been established to deal with suspects involved in serious crimes. According to her, crime rates in Punjab had declined following the department’s establishment.
Uzma Bukhari Shares Details of the Waseem Abbas Case
Referring to the Waseem Abbas case, Uzma Bukhari said CCTV footage had played a crucial role in bringing the incident to light. She remarked that, without the footage, the child’s death might have been treated as a traffic accident.
She also expressed concern over the child’s circumstances following his father’s death, claiming that relatives had not been willing to take responsibility for the children or provide them with basic necessities.
According to Uzma Bukhari, the child was not receiving a salary and was working in exchange for food. She further claimed that the child had attempted to leave the place three times.
Suspect’s Escape and Police Pursuit
Uzma Bukhari said reports had also emerged suggesting that the suspect had displayed violent behaviour towards his own children.
She stated that after the suspect escaped from custody, police established checkpoints and pursued him. According to her, an attempt was made to stop the suspects near Bahawalpur, but they did not stop.
She further said that the second individual who had been travelling with the suspect remained at large.
CCD Personnel Killed and Injured During Operations
The Punjab information minister stated that seven CCD personnel had been martyred and more than 100 injured in encounters with suspects over the past year.
She added that the Punjab chief minister had also held a meeting on violence against women and children and had sought explanations from officials regarding the reported increase in such incidents.
The exchange between Uzma Bukhari and Hina Pervaiz Butt has drawn attention to differences within the ruling party, while the discussion has also highlighted concerns regarding child protection, violence against women and the handling of serious criminal cases in Punjab.
