ISLAMABAD: An old photograph purportedly showing Sohail Afridi and Murad Saeed during their youth has resurfaced on social media, with posts claiming that the picture dates back to 2011, when the two were allegedly arrested during protests linked to the Raymond Davis case.
The photograph shows the two young men apparently in custody, with handcuffs visible on their wrists. Social media users sharing the image have linked it to the political unrest surrounding the Raymond Davis case, which became a major political and public issue in Pakistan in 2011.
Raymond Davis, a US national, was arrested in Lahore in January 2011 after two Pakistani men were killed in an incident involving him. He was subsequently acquitted in March 2011 after the families of the deceased accepted blood money, or diyat, and the court proceedings concluded in his release.
Posts circulating with the photograph are also attempting to connect the political activism of that period with the current political standing of the two figures. However, some additional claims accompanying the image — particularly allegations that a specific lawyer or political figure directly arranged a “deal” for Davis’s release — have not been independently verified and should not be presented as established fact.
Political Context
Users sharing the photograph argue that individuals who participated in political protests and activism in 2011 have since become prominent figures in Pakistani politics. Some posts are also using the image to draw a comparison between the political support of that period and the present-day political landscape.
However, the original date, location and complete circumstances surrounding any photograph should be independently verified before conclusions are drawn from it.
Important Note: This report is based on the photograph and claims currently circulating on social media. The authenticity and exact context of the image, as well as the specific claims accompanying it, require independent verification.
