KARACHI: An unusual case involving alleged forgery and irregularities in appointment records has emerged within the Sindh Police, with a man reportedly found to have joined the force on the basis of an allegedly fake appointment order and subsequently served in various positions for around 32 years.
According to reports, Ijaz Tareen allegedly joined the Sindh Police in 1989 as an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) on the basis of a forged appointment document. He later rose through the ranks and reportedly served as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and, on some occasions, as an acting Superintendent of Police (SP).
Reports further indicate that Tareen served in important police positions in Nawabshah and other parts of Sindh, receiving salaries and other official benefits over the course of his lengthy service.
How Did the Matter Come to Light?
According to available reports, Tareen approached the court in connection with his seniority for the post of SSP. During the proceedings, the relevant department was directed to examine his appointment and service record.
A detailed review of his records allegedly revealed that his original appointment order itself was not genuine. The discovery subsequently raised questions about the promotions and positions he had held during his decades-long career.
Termination from Service
Reports state that, following the court’s directions, the Inspector General of Sindh Police issued an order terminating Tareen’s service.
He has also reportedly been directed to face action concerning salaries and other government benefits received during his service. However, the precise financial liability and any recovery proceedings would depend on official records and the applicable legal process.
Questions Over Police Verification System
The case has raised serious questions about the systems used by the Sindh Police for recruitment, verification of service documents, promotions and maintenance of personnel records.
If the allegations are established, the case would extend beyond the conduct of an individual and raise questions about how an allegedly forged appointment document remained undetected for decades despite the officer holding various positions within the police department.
The matter could therefore prompt scrutiny of the department’s verification and monitoring mechanisms, particularly those related to original appointment records and subsequent promotions.
Note: The allegations in this report are presented in the context of reported departmental and judicial proceedings. Their final legal status will be determined by the competent authorities and courts.
