Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has introduced a facility allowing sales tax on imported mobile phones to be paid in monthly installments for registration under the Device Identification, Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS).
According to the reported details, the FBR has issued Customs General Order No. 06 of 2026, amending the Customs General Order of 2019 to establish a procedure for installment-based sales tax payments on mobile phones.
Applicants Can Choose Installments During Registration
Under the new procedure, applicants can select the monthly installment option when submitting an application for mobile phone registration through DIRBS.
The facility will be available to passengers arriving in Pakistan from abroad, local applicants, and individuals importing mobile phones for personal use through postal or courier services.
How Will the Installments Be Determined?
According to the FBR, the applicable sales tax will be payable in equal monthly installments. The number of installments will be determined by the number of months remaining in the relevant financial year, including the month in which the application is submitted.
However, sales tax payable on mobile phones imported in June must be paid in full before the end of that month.
First Installment Must Be Paid at the Time of Application
Under the new system, the first installment will be paid at the time of submitting the application through the Payment Slip ID (PSID) generated by DIRBS.
If no specific payment date is prescribed for a particular month, the payment must be made by the last day of that month.
All Installments Must Be Paid Before June 30
The FBR has clarified that all installments must be paid before June 30, the end of the financial year.
Applicants will also be allowed to pay all remaining installments, or any individual installment, before the scheduled due date.
The initiative is expected to provide greater flexibility to people importing mobile phones from abroad and registering them for use in Pakistan.
Note: The details above are based on the supplied report. The original Customs General Order should be consulted to confirm the applicable conditions and eligibility requirements before publication.
