Alleged Custodial Torture at Battal Police Station: Court Orders FIR Against SHO and Two Officers

MANSEHRA: An Additional Sessions Court in Mansehra has ordered the registration of an FIR against Battal Police Station SHO Bashir Tanoli and two other police officers in connection with allegations of illegal detention and custodial torture involving three young men.
According to the court proceedings, the three youths were allegedly kept in police custody for approximately 15 days without an FIR or any official entry in the police station record and were allegedly subjected to torture during their detention.
The families of the affected youths approached the court, alleging that the young men had been unlawfully detained and subjected to custodial violence.
During the proceedings, the Additional Sessions Judge directed that the affected youths undergo medical examinations to determine whether they had sustained injuries or other signs of alleged torture.
Following the medical examination, the medical report was presented before the court. In light of the findings, the court ordered legal action against the police officials allegedly responsible.
The court directed that an FIR be registered against Battal SHO Bashir Tanoli, Investigation Branch In-charge Gul Nawaz Khan and Investigating Officer Muhammad Arshad under relevant provisions concerning alleged custodial torture, illegal detention and other applicable offences.
The court further directed that the matter be dealt with in accordance with the law and that further legal proceedings be initiated against the nominated officials.
The development comes amid continued judicial scrutiny of allegations involving illegal detention and alleged torture in police custody.
The accused police officials have not yet publicly responded to the allegations. Further investigation and legal proceedings are expected to establish the facts and determine responsibility.
